Takeda wins legal fees on US patent case

According to the Reuters news agency, the decision follows an original ruling in February 2006 when Judge Denise Cote ruled that Takeda's patent on diabetes drug Actos was valid. Having failed in their efforts to challenge the ruling, Mylan and Alphapharm have now been ordered to pay the Takeda's legal fees.

Judge Cote ordered Mylan to pay $11.4 million, and Australia-based Alphapharm must pay $5.4 million. Both companies must also pay interest on the amounts, accruing from September 2006.
