Stating that they are cooperating fully with the investigating authorities, both the companies denied any misconduct on their part in the program.
Denying any role of its employees in the scam, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) said: “GSK does not believe that its employees or its agents in Iraq knowingly engaged in wrongdoing regarding the oil-for-food program.”
Claiming that it is cooperating with the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) in the investigation, the company said: “GSK went to considerable lengths to cooperate with UK government authorities responsible for the UK administration of the program, and to impose anti-corruption measures when dealing with intermediaries in Iraq.”
