CommunityHealth in Illinois announced the opening of MedAccess Chicago, a licensed pharmacy housed at the health center that will make free prescription medications available to uninsured patients throughout the city.
MedAccess Chicago has a goal of providing 100,000 free medications on an annual basis within the first five years of operation. With the addition of a licensed pharmacy, CommunityHealth is able to connect people to needed medical care and prescription assistance directly at the site where uninsured patients interact with healthcare providers.
Karissa Laur, director of patient assistance programs at AstraZeneca, said: “AstraZeneca is excited to partner with CommunityHealth, to help patients in Illinois access our medicines. CommunityHealth is an outstanding organization that, with the opening of MedAccess Chicago, will now be able to provide both healthcare and medicines to people who need it most.”
