P&G’s female patch to boost sex drive available on NHS

Intrinsa is the first treatment for women with low sex drives and has been branded a female Viagra. Intrinsa is a clear patch worn on the abdomen that releases testosterone into the bloodstream.

The patch will only be available by prescription, mainly to those women who have had an early menopause due to a hysterectomy. These women may require the patch because the process of removing the ovaries reduces testosterone, the male hormone which boosts female desire.

Trials, which involved 500 women, showed a 74% increase in satisfying sex from women who wore the patch.
