Fears of the spread of bird flu are mounting after China confirmed its first human deaths from the virus in November. The Ministry of Science and Technology has a team that is charged with monitoring the avian flu in China and is seeking solutions to assist in the surveillance of poultry as well as other livestock.”
Surveillance of poultry and livestock is a pressing issue in poorer areas affected by avian flu given farmers’ inclination to falsify records of the number of birds under their supervision. The Ministry of Science and Technology is able to issue a national mandatory directive to require the use of RFID technology by all poultry farms and it is quite possible it will act upon this authority should the threat of the virus increase.
