Bayer Increases Capacity For Aliphatic Coatings Raw Materials In China

Bayer MaterialScience (Bayer) has expanded the capacity of Desmodur N aliphatic coatings raw materials at its integrated site in Caojing, near Shanghai in China.

The company said that the plant has increased the capacity of Desmodur N to 27,000 tpa, to meet the growing demand in Asia, particularly China, in the automotive, general industrial and plastics market.

Reportedly, the company has been producing Desmodur N coatings raw materials at Caojing since April 2003 at a facility which had an initial capacity of 11,500 tpa.

Desmodur N is part of the Desmodur polyisocyanates range of raw materials for the formulation of a variety of polyurethane coatings, adhesives and sealants. Desmodur N is a solvent-free aliphatic polyisocyanate resin based on hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI).

The company has added that Desmodur products are available in both aromatic and aliphatic (light-stable) grades, and based on diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI), toluene diisocyanate (TDI), hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) chemistry.
