Biocon to construct manufacturing plant in India

Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) commissioner H G Koshia was quoted by Business Standard as saying that Biocon has approached the state government for land to set up a manufacturing plant.

”The company is interested in Gujarat, but talks are in the preliminary stages,” Koshia added.

Gujarat Government industries and mines department principal secretary M Sahu said many global pharma companies from countries like Japan and other European nations are keen to invest in the state.

”One can expect at least 25-30 big pharma companies to invest in Gujarat in the recent future," Sahu added.

India-based Biocon has its presence in chronic therapy segments, which include diabetolgy, oncology, nephrology, cardiology and immunotherapy.

The proposed Gujarat plant may require an investment of about Rs2.5-3bn ($45-$54m).
