BioCryst Pharma to relocate headquarters to Durham

As part of the realignment, around 10 and 15 employees will move from Birmingham to Durham. This will result in the elimination of eight jobs, which will be outsourced to Birmingham’s Southern Research Institute for bioanalytics.

BioCryst CEO Jon Stonehouse said the firm’s laboratory and drug discovery researchers will remain in Birmingham, where it has been based since it was founded in 1986.

However, Biocryst will be shifting the rest of its administration, clinical and regulatory operations to Durham to take advantage of efficiencies.

The realignment of the company will take about three months. The Birmingham site, Discovery Research Center and Laboratory Center of Excellence, will focus on drug discovery, while the Durham site will focus on regulatory issues and drug development, Stonehouse said.
