Biogen opens new facility to enhance patient service operations at RTP

New 190,000ft² facility built to LEED-Gold certified standards, is expected to accommodate 500 employees initially.

Biogen Idec chief executive officer George Scangos said the new facility will unite more than 1,000 people working on patient service operations for serious diseases on single site.

"The expansion of our footprint in RTP underscores our commitment to providing a secure supply of medicines and to helping patients overcome obstacles to receiving them," Scangos added.

Building 26 will house the Patient Services group’s inbound/outbound call center serving multiple sclerosis (MS) patients and their care providers.

RTP site manufactures bulk MS drug substances Avonex and Tysabri besides other clinical products and offers patient support along with financial aid.

Biogen Idec RTP vice president, manufacturing and general manager Machelle Sanders said, "With this new building, our employees are constantly reminded of our purpose through the patient stories that adorn the main areas and workspaces within the building."
