The RxWise tool, which can be accessed via the web or USB Flash Drive, is designed to evaluate the potential risks for an adverse drug reaction (ADR) by analyzing an individual’s self-reported or insurance claims-based medical information and checking it against their medications.
The device then uses risk assessment software to offer personalized information about prescription, herbal and over-the-counter drugs that may cause an adverse reaction.
Consumers can use the product to record a history of drugs, medical conditions and drug allergies, which will bring up a summary of relevant advisories regarding potential risks.
“The use of prescription, non-prescription and herbal medicines is more prevalent than ever and everyone can react differently to the same medication,” said Aida LeRoy, executive vice president of Iatrogen. “RxWise not only encourages a dialogue between healthcare providers and their patients, but provides an affordable solution to the growing problem of drug-induced illness.”
ADRs are reportedly linked to the deaths of 100,000 hospitalized patients each year in the US, while as many as 4 million people in the US annually experience serious, non-fatal ADRs. They are also said to cost the US $136bn a year.
The new RxWise USB Flash Drive is available for $39.95, and the web version, accessible through the internet, is available for $24.00.
