Englewood Hospital and Medical Center To Implement New HIT From McKesson

The hospital said that HIT investment is part of a transformational initiative to better serve Englewood Hospital’s patient community while enabling the hospital to qualify for incentives under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Reportedly, 520-bed medical center will replace its clinical systems with a full array of McKesson Horizon Clinicals solutions. These include computerised physician order entry, point-of-care bar-code medication administration for patient safety, and interdisciplinary clinical documentation for nurses and physicians.

Englewood Hospital also plans to transform its financial practices with McKesson’s Horizon Enterprise Revenue Management solution, which combines rules-based software and connectivity services to streamline revenue cycle management processes.

Additionally, McKesson’s strategic business intelligence solution embedded within Horizon Clinicals and Horizon Enterprise Revenue Management will give Englewood Hospital a comprehensive view of clinical and financial performance to identify and facilitate ongoing improvements, by integrating clinical, financial and operational data.

Moreover, the new systems will provide Englewood Hospital clinicians with the right information at the right time, enabling them to make more informed clinical decisions at the point-of-care. The hospital staff expects the integrated solution suite to empower it with advanced capabilities to meet rapidly evolving demands for improved clinical, operational and financial outcomes.

As part of the deployment, Englewood Hospital plans to implement solutions that will support improved clinical and financial operations in its new $35m emergency care center. The center features 40 large private treatment rooms, fast-track triage for adults and children, and a dedicated imaging center. An electronic whiteboard, which provides information on patient status and location as well as real-time clinical alerts, will enable caregivers to quickly respond to patient needs.

Warren Geller, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Englewood Hospital, said: “We are partnering with McKesson to execute on our economic stimulus strategy and transform operations across the continuum of care. We chose McKesson because of its commitment to service and support as well as its comprehensive offering – from electronic health records and automated medication management to advanced enterprise revenue management. McKesson has the resources and understands what it takes to help us achieve our objectives for patient safety, quality of care and overall efficiency.”
