FDA approves Aurobindo Pharma generic HIV drug

The FDA approved Nevirapine tablets of 200mg strength and Nevirapine oral suspension of 50mg/5ml strength, the company said.

The drug is used as a part of antiretroviral combination therapy for the treatment of HIV infected adults.

The company plans to launch the generic equivalent of Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceutical’s Viramune tablets and oral suspension, in the same strengths, in the US market shortly.

The products had sales of $125m for the twelve months ending December 2011, according to IMS health data.
