Kyowa Hakko Kirin to start construction of new IK8 research building at Fuji Research Park

The building, which will be built with an investment of about JPY2.22bn ($21.9m), is expected to be completed in March 2015.

The construction project is part of the company’s strategy to transfer the Chemical Process Research and Development Laboratories (Sakai city, Osaka) to Fuji Research Park.

The new building will integrate the industrialization research conducted at the Chemical Process Research and Development Laboratories with the drug discovery chemical research function at Fuji Research Park.

It will feature new laboratories optimized for the synthetic processes used in commercial operations and general synthetic chemistry needed for R&D into synthetic pharmaceuticals.

The company said that the projects major aim is to build research facilities that are safe and environmentally friendly.

With the completion of the project, Kyowa Hakko Kirin aims to accelerate R&D into synthetic pharmaceuticals as well as improve its manufacturing technologies for synthetic pharmaceuticals, and enable safe and stable manufacturing, in order to continue supplying the market with high-quality pharmaceuticals.
