LentiKat’s said that this product is based on Lentikats Biotechnology, a new technique for the immobilization (encapsulation) of free enzymes or bacteria into a porous hydrogel matrix made of polyvinyl alcohol.
The main reason for the immobilization of biological material in pharmaceutical and food industry is to enable a repetitive use of the often very costly material and to cut down on the costs incurred in the consequent separation of the bio-material from the reaction media.
According to LentiKat’s, such immobilization has been successfully tested in production of precursors of semi-synthetic antibiotics, production of lactose-free milk or lactic acid.
LentiKat’s claimed that the lentil-like shape and high stability of the matrix combine in a durable carrier with no diffusion limits, yet with convenient size for easy separation. Using Lentikats Biotechnology, the immobilization is carried out under very mild conditions and the technology is applicable to any enzyme of bacteria either in its free form or cross-linked, dead or viable cells.
LentiKat’s is a privately-owned company focused on the production and supplies, development and implementation of immobilized cells and enzymes. The company’s main goal is the global implementation of Lentikats Biotechnology in fermentation, biotransformation and bioconversion processes.
