The development was done to avoid problems caused by increasing data volumes and this system will be made available across Bio-Rad’s European sites in Germany, Italy and the UK.
The solution design includes a NetApp FAS filer solution running NFS and CIFS to provide data storage capacity of hundreds of terabytes and also enables multiple-host connected servers.
Majenta’s data storage solution is based on NetApp’s unified data storage architecture with VMware’s vSphere virtualisation software.
VMware’s vSphere software enables reduction in the number of physical servers required by providing virtualisation of hardware and also provides savings through lower power, cooling and hardware maintenance costs.
Bio-Rad Laboratories European IT infrastructure project manager Andy Cowland said with Majenta Solutions’ assistance and training, all elements of the new system were integrated seamlessly into their existing IT infrastructure and began supporting data storage, back-up and replication without any delays.
