Merck To Unveil Parteck ODT In Spain

Germany-based, Merck KgaA is going to launch Parteck ODT, a directly compressible excipient developed for fast-acting orally disintegrating tablets, at the CPhI Worldwide in Madrid.

According to the company, Parteck ODT consists of a combination of spray-granulated mannitol and croscarmellose sodium. It is compressible at low compaction forces, which permits the formulation of tablets that dissolve in the mouth and release the active ingredient.

The company claims that Parteck ODT offers rapid disintegration of the tablet without the need for water, but also the fast release of the active ingredient across a broad range of hardness and compression forces. This results in high levels of safety and flexibility when developing and producing ODTs.

The company said that the compression properties permit a high active ingredient content of up to 50% of the formulation, enabling the production of very small tablets that patients prefer, while lowering costs.

Parteck is a range of excipients developed and marketed by Merck for the production of solid dosage forms in the pharmaceutical industry. Parteck ODT is the first excipient in this product range developed specifically for ODT applications. Other products include Parteck Delta M (delta mannitol), Parteck M (directly compressible mannitol), Parteck SI (directly compressible sorbitol) and Parteck LUB (lubricant).
