Nexira takes over European botanicals extracting firm

Tournay is involved in extracting active botanical ingredients including cranberry, green coffee and green tea used in neutraceutical and dietary supplements industrial applications.

In addition, Tournay’s botanical product portfolio includes Exocyan, which comprises cranberry extracts standardized on proanthocyanidines (PACs) content.

PACs, a type of flavonoid, are known as condensed tannins which have antioxidant properties and other health activities, according to the company.

The financial details, which will be finalized at the end of October 2012, have not been disclosed.

Nexira president Stephane Dondain said with the acquisition, the company will now share its family values with Tournay.

"We are confident that this acquisition is aligned with the expansion plan that we announced one year ago," Dondain added.

Tournay Biotechnologies president Cedric Tournay said, "The acquisition of Tournay Biotechnologies by Nexira will give to the company an international dimension, essential to accelerate its expansion."
