Nuance, 3M partner to deliver ICD-10-ready clinical documentation solutions

The companies will also introduce Computer-Assisted Physician Documentation (CAPD) technology to provide breakthrough advancements in clinical document improvement (CDI).

The idea is to establish CAPD use as a core component for an organization’s clinical documentation workflow.

This will be achieved by utilizing Nuance’s advanced speech recognition and Clinical Language Understanding (CLU) technologies in integration with 3M’s extensive CDI content and expertise, which will reduce operational costs and increase documentation accuracy.

Nuance Healthcare executive vice president and general manager Janet Dillione said CAPD will bring substantial improvements to physician workflow, and facilitate complete coding and more accurate claims.

3M president Jon Lindekugel said CAPD from 3M and Nuance is a breakthrough technology that will help physicians capture complete and accurate clinical documentation while saving time and reducing costs.

3M will license Nuance’s CLU technology to advance its computer-assisted coding products for inpatient and physician-based coding.
The companies expect to release the CAPD solution in 2011 fall.
