Obama administration decides to lift age restrictions on morning-after pill

The pill was earlier available to women aged 17 years and more, only on submitting their age proof at the pharmacy counters.

The US Department of Justice is set to withdraw its appeal and comply with the April 2013 court’s ruling to allow unhampered sales of the one-pill version of morning-after pill.

Pursuant to the development, the FDA has asked Teva, the maker of the pill, to submit a new drug application with proposed label change permitting the sale ‘without a prescription and without age or point-of-sale prescriptions.

As part of the recent development, an appeals court ruled last week in favor of selling the two-pill version of the drug without age restrictions at the same time as the federal government fights Korman’s ruling.
