Pharmavite opens new manufacturing facility at Northeast Opelika Industrial Park

Pharmavite chief operating officer Mark Walsh said, "At 330,000 square feet, the Opelika-based Pharmavite facility is one of the largest vitamin, mineral and supplement (VMS) manufacturing facilities built in the last 10 years in the United States."

The Opelika facility has become the first major vitamin and supplement manufacturing site to be certified Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) in the US.

Pharmavite chief executive officer Doug MacLean said, "Our new facility in Opelika will help us continue our leadership role and supports our vision of people creating new products for better health worldwide, which is the mission we share with our parent company, Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd."

Construction of the new facility was intitated on 31 October 2011 and the company has already started manufacturing of Nature Made soft gels and tablets in Opelika from 12 January 2013.

Around $73m was previously invested in capital in 2012 by the company, and expects an additional $16.6m to be invested in 2013.

The facility currently employs around 245 employees with expectation to have 260 employees by the end of 2013.
