At 2009 GlobalChem Conference, Susan Sharkey of EPA told the attendees to expect changes to the next Inventory Update Rule (IUR). She also stated that 2006 IUR contained several major issues, including data accuracy, overuse of CBI, not readily obtainable claims and problems with processing data.
EPA anticipates to improve the efficiency of the next IUR by fully utilizing tools such as electronic reporting and data validation, and providing online workshops to submitters. She also accepted difficulties in transitioning from paper to electronic reporting, but also stressed that EPA is making efforts to ease this adjustment.
The Agency is currently in the process of developing a proposed rule, which is expected to be published this summer. The final rule is expected in the winter of 2010. The next reporting period for the upcoming 2010 IUR will be June 1, 2011 to September 20, 2011.
