Rexam To Shut Down Plastic Packaging Manufacturing Facility In US

Rexam has reported the closure of its plastic packaging manufacturing plant in Nashua, New Hampshire. The closure is expected to occur in the fourth quarter of 2010. The move further aligns the company’s manufacturing capabilities, improves overall asset utilisation and helps balance industry capacity and demand.

Reportedly, the plant manufactures injection blow molded products for the healthcare market. The plant’s production is also expected to be absorbed by other Rexam facilities without interruption in customer shipments.

The company said that all employees affected by the plant closure will receive outplacement assistance.

The facility is part of Rexam’s global plastics business which operates more than 45 plants and employs approximately 15,000 people around the world, serving the healthcare, closures and personal care markets.

Graham Chipchase, chief executive designate at Rexam, said: “This is part of our strategy to deliver operational excellence and align our manufacturing capabilities across our global plastics business. It will allow us to improve the overall utilisation of our existing operations, further balance capacity and demand and continue our focus on delivering world-class quality products and services to customers.”
