SAP rolls out new business intelligence offering for healthcare organizations

The SAP BusinessObjects Staff Productivity Management for Healthcare application enables insight into staffing productivity such as worked hours per patient day, wages, workload statistics and FTEs at the departmental or cost-center level.

As a result, departmental and nursing unit managers will be able to better organize staffing to patient care requirements, and help build and maintain a skilled workforce via recruitment and training measures.

SAP said it has worked closely on the new application with customers such as The Johns Hopkins Hospital in the US, the flagship of Johns Hopkins Medicine.

SAP senior vice president and head of global Healthcare sector John Papandrea said the software tracks risk management issues commonly found in healthcare facilities – such as patient falls, medication errors and hospital-acquired infections – that not only threaten patient well-being but can lead to medical liability and reduced reimbursements.

"With access to up-to-date information, healthcare organizations can detect problems earlier, investigate root causes more quickly and address issues proactively to help minimize their impact," Papandrea said.
