The council has also issued licences to five more local companies to import medicines and pharmaceutical products into the country at a competitive price, without compromising on quality.
The move follows the Emiri decision issued last year to liberalise imports and ensure sufficient supply of medicines in the local market at competitive prices.
The manufacturing companies that have been granted approval include: Qatar Al Hayat, Q-Med, Al Mutamayyiz Factory for pharmaceutical products, Doha Factory for pharmaceutical products, medical solutions and intravenous nutrients.
The companies that granted permission to import drugs are: Tiba International Company, Ibn Al-Haytham Medical Foundation, Qatar Pharmacy, Doha Drug Store and Massar Medical.
SCH urged all pharmacies and drug suppliers to adopt ‘Unified Gulf Pricing’ scheme which will further guarantee that consumers get the same drugs for the same price anywhere in the Gulf Cooperation Council.
