Thermo Fisher Scientific introduces Tribrid LC-MS system

The new Tribrid architecture provides unprecedented depth of analysis of complex biological samples.

Orbitrap Fusion LC-MS is a configuration of three different mass analyzers that work together to raise analytical performance to new levels and enables new methods like quadrupole, ultra-high-field Orbitrap, ion routing multipole.

Thermo Fisher Scientific chromatography and mass spectrometry chief technology officer Ian Jardine said that the mission has been to create the highest-performing commercial mass spectrometer ever built.

"In creating the Orbitrap Fusion, we have combined and improved our quadrupole, linear ion trap and Orbitrap technologies in an ultimately flexible research MS system – to arrive at an entirely new class of instrument that will transform our customers’ science," Jardine added.

The Tribrid configuration permits the users to identify large amount of low-abundance proteins sooner than previously possible with existing commercial instruments.

The architecture of the Tribrid enables simultaneous precursor isolation, fragmentation, and data acquisition in both the Orbitrap and linear ion trap mass analyzers.
