Understanding cell biological processes help discover new medical treatments

Controlling DSIFprotein can help researchers to discover new methods for controlling inflammation, and immune responses, as well as the cell cycle processes that can lead to cancer.

Activity of NF-?B is transient because some of the gene products function as negative regulators of NF-?B, resulting in a negative feedback loop, reports MTB Europe.

Researchers treated cells to reduce the expression of DSIF and monitored the effect on protein levels of NF-?B’s target genes and found that in the treated ‘DSIF knockdown’ cells, the levels of the proteins failed to recover following a degradation process.

Further investigation also showed that DSIF plays an integral role in the maturation and transport of messenger RNAs.

In addition, researchers will further study DSIF under specific settings to identify drug targets for selective manipulation of NF-?B activity.
