Congratulations to the team of students from Nottingham University who travelled to Boston USA to present their work at the iGEM Jamboree and came back winners.

The team designed and conducted a novel scientific research project for the prestigious and internationally renowned “iGEM competition” by developing a new system that can ‘sniff out’ when food preservation and packaging methods fail, allowing the growth of dangerous Clostridium botulinum bacteria. These bacteria can cause a type of food poisoning which may result in paralysis or even death.

In congratulating the team, PBL’s Managing Director Dr Roger Hinton commented that as a company, we were pleased to be able to offer our support as a co-sponsor because a key part of PBL’s educational outreach programme is supporting the next generation of scientists and engineers in innovative R&D projects, which can bring benefits to patients or prevent harm to the population
