Cyberonics acquires stroke patents

Cyberonics has acquired the exclusive rights to three additional patents pertaining to vagus nerve stimulation for the treatment of stroke and traumatic brain injury.

The patents were licensed from Southern Illinois University (SIU). The research underlying the patents was a collaboration of psychology faculty at SIU Carbondale and physiology and neurology faculty at SIU School of Medicine.

Dan Moore, Cyberonics’ president and CEO, said: “This announcement, combined with our recent agreements to support several institutional grant applications for pilot studies in traumatic brain injury (TBI), demonstrates our commitment to expand our business around the neurology and surgery call points. We remain committed to advancing new applications of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) Therapy in the exciting field of neuromodulation.”
