Shire files suit over ADHD drug in US

Shire has filed a lawsuit in the US against Colony Pharmaceuticals, Actavis, and Actavis Group for infringement of its US patents for the ADHD drug Adderall.

Shire said that the lawsuit results from an abbreviated new drug application filed by Colony for generic versions of 5mg, 10mg, 15mg, 20mg, 25mg and 30mg Adderall XR. Colony said that it would seek to market its generic products before the expiration of Shire's patents. The lawsuit alleges that all of Colony's generic strengths infringe the three patents in suit.

Shire and Colony are both based in the UK, while Actavis is headquartered in Iceland.
