The patent grant ensures that the novel disposable cassette system and the key elements of the detection technology employed in Afinion are protected from copying by third parties. According to the company, the system is rapidly becoming accepted as a versatile desk-top analyzer for use at the point of care.
Ian Gilham, Axis-Shield CEO, said: “We are pleased to have received Afinion patent protection in what is becoming an important and growing market for Axis-Shield. We are building a solid NycoCard business in China, particularly in diabetes with our HbA1c test, and believe that substantial potential also exists for Afinion in the Chinese market-place.”
