Compugen names new board chairman

Compugen, a drug and diagnostic product candidate discovery company, has appointed Dov Hershberg as chairman of its board, succeeding Martin Gerstel, who, as of the beginning of 2009, was appointed president and CEO.

Mr Hershberg is an executive director and a board member of Powermat, a wireless electric power company that he co-founded. He is also an advisory board member of the Merage Foundation.

Earlier in his career, Mr Hershberg held various senior management positions in product development, marketing and in sales, including 11 years with Digital Equipment Corporation. He also founded, along with colleagues from Stanford University, Molecular Applications Group, a biomedical research software company where he served as CEO.

Mr Gerstel said: “I look forward to working with Dov as our chairman. Currently, with 10 validated predictive discovery platforms and a growing number of initial product candidate discoveries, a much larger portion of our efforts is being devoted to business development and commercialization.

“These are areas, among others, where Dov brings to Compugen a wealth of experience gained through his extensive management background in general, and specifically in the field of collaborative arrangements, a result of his long-term position as executive director of the US/Israel Bi-National Industrial R&D Foundation.”
