Female Health Company wins FDA approval for FC2 Female Condom

The Female Health Company, a manufacturer of female condoms, has received approval from the FDA for the company's FC2 Female Condom, a woman-initiated barrier method that helps to protect against sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS, and unintended pregnancy.

The Female Health Company’s lower-cost second generation female condom will now be available for purchase and distribution in the US. The FDA approval will also enable the US Agency for International Development to procure FC2 for distribution to global HIV/AIDS programs.

Mary Leeper, senior strategic advisor of Female Health Company, said: “Nearly three decades after the start of the global AIDS pandemic, FHC’s female condoms remain the only safe and effective woman-initiated HIV prevention method approved by the FDA. Today’s approval of FC2 is an important development in efforts to deliver affordable access to woman-initiated HIV prevention in the US and around the world.”
