Takeda applies for Actos to be taken with insulin in Japan

Takeda has submitted an application to the Japanese health ministry to allow its diabetes drug to be used with insulin. Currently in Japan the drugs cannot be prescribed together.

Actos directly targets insulin resistance in type II diabetics, a condition where the body does not effectively use the insulin it produces, by improving the sensitivity to insulin mainly in the muscles, fat cells and the liver.

The drug can be taken in tandem with insulin in Europe and the US.
