US kids immunization project adopts Merck vaccines

Merck & Co. says two of its vaccines will be used in a US immunization program for children.

Rotateq is a rotavirus vaccine, while Gardasil is for the prevention of cervical cancer. Both are being adopted in all 55 US immunization projects.

“This milestone is an important step in Merck’s ongoing commitment to make our vaccines available to all children who need them, regardless of income,” said Mark Feinberg, vice president of policy, public health and medical affairs, Merck Vaccines.

Additionally, Merck has submitted applications to seek World Health Organization (WHO) prequalification status for the vaccines in a bid to make them available in the developing world.
