Ethicon introduces new hernia device

Ethicon, a medical device company, has launched the Proceed ventral patch, the new addition to its family of hernia products.

According to the company, the Proceed ventral patch (PVP) device is the first and only umbilical hernia repair device featuring lighter-weight mesh and exclusive, absorbable deployment technology. It is indicated for use in umbilical, epigastric, small ventral and trocar site hernias.

The PVP device is a sterile, self-expanding, partially absorbable, flexible mesh device that utilizes the Proceed surgical mesh design. The new device is available in small (4.3 cm) and medium (6.4 cm) sizes.

The unique product design offers surgeons secure and stable deployment, strength without ePTFE (expanded polytetrafluoroethylene) and a macroporous/ partially absorbable construction, the company said.
