Shire names new CFO

Shire, a biopharmaceutical company, has announced that Graham Hetherington will join the company as CFO and executive board director on July 1, 2008.

Mr Hetherington has a broad range of experience in senior financial roles having most recently held positions as the CFO of Bacardi (2007) and Allied Domecq (1999-2005).

As previously announced, on June 18, 2008 Shire’s current CFO, Angus Russell becomes CEO; he will also be acting CFO until July 1, 2008, when Mr Hetherington takes up the position. On June 18, 2008, Shire’s current CEO Matthew Emmens becomes chairman and non-executive director, and Shire’s current chairman, Dr James Cavanaugh retires from the Shire board.

Mr Emmens said: “We welcome Graham to the Shire board. In addition to his contributions as the company’s CFO, he brings a wealth of financial experience as well as a new perspective from another highly competitive industry.”
