Sanofi Lovenox trial is postponed

Sanofi-Aventis' trial date for the Lovenox patent-infringement suit, which it is bringing against Amphastar and Teva Pharmaceuticals, has been postponed for two months and will now begin on December 4, 2006.

The two generic drug manufacturers have been attempting to sell cheaper copies of Lovenox, a blood thinner, in the US. However, the patent does not expire until 2012.

Sanofi-Aventis also sued a division of the drugs firm Novartis for copying the treatment.

Sanofi-Aventis specializes in seven major therapeutic areas: cardiovascular, thrombosis, oncology metabolic diseases, central nervous system, internal medicine, and vaccines.

Another of Sanofi-aventis’ drugs, Plavix, is being duplicated by generic companies. Plavix is the world’s second best selling drug.
