MedicineLodge receives FDA approval for suture device

MedicineLodge, a medical device technology development company, has received FDA 510(k) clearance for its ZipKnot suture fastener. The ZipKnot is used in place of surgically tied knots, saving operating room time and providing a stronger, more reliable fastening of surgical suture.

“The increasing number of less invasive procedures, particularly endoscopic and laprascopic procedures requires more demanding suture knot tying skills,” noted Wade Fallin, president and CEO of MedicineLodge.

“These procedures require the tying of extracorporeal sliding knots or the manipulation of remotely actuated knot tying instruments. The ZipKnot, which is easily deployed with a standard knot pusher, provides a rapid method for fastening suture that is repeatable, stronger and more durable than hand-tied knots.”

The ZipKnot is currently under development for a broad spectrum of surgical procedures.
