Khaleej Times reported that an investment of E100m is being made to establish a biologics manufacturing plant in Abu Dhabi. The plant will manufacture drugs for the Middle East and North African countries.
A new pharmaceutical company, ‘Emirates Biotech Pharmaceutical Factory’ will set up the plant. The plant will produce pharmaceuticals and raw materials based on biotechnology process.
The products will primarily include crystal insulin for diabetes, anti-cancers, vaccines, haemophilia A and growth factors.
The managing director of Hebi Holding, Refaat El Sayeed, said: “The construction of the plant would commence within six months, while commercial production will begin in two years time.”
Reportedly, The company plans to export 80% of the products to the Middle Eastern countries, and the rest in UAE and other Arabian Gulf nations.
Reportedly, the UAE has made considerable amount of investments in the pharma industry, in recent times. The UAE, in a to pursuit to diversify its industry beyond oil, is taking steps to boost the pharmaceutical industry.
