news.Eli Lilly and Company has announced that Sue Mahony, general manager of Lilly's Canadian affiliate, will join Lilly's senior management team as the new senior vice president of human resources beginning May 1, 2009. Ms Mahony succeeds Tony Murphy who announced his retirement in March 2009.

Ms Mahony joined Lilly more than eight years ago, after more than a decade in sales and marketing roles in the UK and Europe for Amgen, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Schering-Plough. She was named general manager of Lilly Canada in 2008 after roles in global marketing and new product development, including a leadership role in the development of Cymbalta.
John Lechleiter, Lilly’s chairman, president and CEO, said: “Sue brings a fresh perspective that will help guide the way we anticipate and respond to a rapidly changing environment. Her prior experiences, coupled with her record of strong leadership, will enable Lilly to sustain a strong human resources function and ensure that we are able to compete and win in the face of unprecedented challenge and opportunity.”
