Ansell announces commencement of operations at Sri Lankan R&D centre

Ansell has announced the commencement of operations at new research and development centre in the Biyagama Export Zone outside Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The 16,000ft² facility is the fourth center of excellence of Ansell while the other three include Malaysia, Mexico and North America-based centers.

Ansell managing director and CEO Magnus Nicolin said, "Ansell has a long track record of manufacturing high quality industrial and medical products in Sri Lanka, and new product development will now complement manufacturing and expand our presence in the region."

Company hired 30 science and technology professionals for the new facility.

BOI chairman/director general Dr Lakshman Jayaweera said Ansell that has been investing for a long time under the BOI has opened new R&D facility in Sri Lanka.

"Research and Development is an essential component in any enterprise’s production process and can influence decisions to invest in a country," Jayaweera added.

"Furthermore, investments that develop innovation sector such as Ansell’s new R&D facility are also in line with the strategic plan of the Government to transform Sri Lanka into a Knowledge Hub."
