Hana creates alternative to antiemetic tablets

An oral spray that could prevent the nausea associated with cancer treatments has been accepted for review by the FDA. The drug, Zensana, has been developed by the biopharmaceutical company Hana Biosciences.

The current treatment, an antiemetic drug, comes in tablet form and is just as effective as the oral spray. Hana believes its new medication could be an alternative for patients who experience discomfort or difficulty swallowing tablets, due to mouth and throat sores, inflammation, or a dry mouth.

“With this NDA filing, we are excited to be one step closer to bringing relief to patients suffering from nausea and vomiting as a result of their cancer treatments,” stated Mark Ahn, president and CEO.

Hana are expected to launch the drug in the US in 2007.
