BASF Appoints New Head For Care Chemicals and Formulators

BASF has named Stefan Beckmann as the head of the Care Chemicals and Formulators Europe unit. Dr. Beckmann has taken charge on January 1, 2010. He succeeds Friedrich Seitz, who will be taking charge of BASF’s Competence Center Chemicals Research & Engineering.

Dr. Beckmann has started his career in BASF in 1992, after obtaining a degree in chemistry and subsequently gaining a doctorate in Organic Chemistry at the Westfaelische Wilhelms-Universitaet Muenster, Germany, and spending a postdoc period at the University of California, Berkeley, US.

Initially, he worked in BASF’s Colorants Laboratory. From 1997 to 1999, Dr. Beckmann was deputy plant manager in the Dispersions and Pigments division. After that, he was delegated to BASF Petronas Chemicals in Malaysia for four years as general manager.

In July 2003, he was responsible for Marketing and Sales, BASF YPC Chemicals, in China. In January 2006, he finally returned to Ludwigshafen and from then on was responsible for part of global procurement of raw materials in the company.
