Bayer Schering Pharma To Establish Innovation Center In US

Bayer Schering Pharma, a Germany-based company, is set to establish a US Innovation Center in San Francisco, California with the goal to expand its research network and build specialty pharmaceutical pipeline.

Bayer Schering Pharma said that the model introduces a newly formed ‘Science Hub’ for innovation sourcing in the US creating collaborations with academic research scientists and small biotech firms to realise product development and commercialisation of new therapies through partnerships with Bayer.

The US Innovation Center is also expected to house Bayer scientists who will drive the company’s hematology research program focused on coagulation factors and the discovery of new biologic drug candidates.

Bayer Schering Pharma stated that by locating the US Innovation Center in Mission Bay, its scientists are expected to be in the growing biomedical research community. Also research scientists working in targeted areas such as cardiology, oncology, women’s healthcare and diagnostic imaging are expected to be rotating through this site.

Andreas Busch, head of global drug discovery for Bayer Schering Pharma, said: “Through our newest innovation center, US academic research institutions and young biopharmaceutical firms will work closely with Bayer scientists and leverage our experience in bringing new discoveries to market.

“Mission Bay is key to our decision to co-locate our researchers in this life sciences community. We expect this new focus on US research collaboration to enhance Bayer’s pipeline which features a combination of internal excellence with highly partnered approaches in research and development and commercialisation.”
