Boehringer implements new disposable technology

German based pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim has developed and implemented a fully disposable set-up and operational approach for disposable technologies as part of its biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing network.

The disposable set-up is expected to ease process transfers, smooth outsourcing concepts and help Lean-to-Clinic program from gene to drug product in 16 months.

Boehringer Ingelheim’s disposable set-up can be operated in the same facility and can also be used for non-GMP process development, according to Boehringer.

Boehringer Ingelheim Biopharmaceuticals Process Science Germany vice president Hitto Kaufmann said, ”We have gathered years of experiences from different single use systems in our expert groups and could therefore form a truly unique single use platform for upstream- and downstream processes."

The platform will be established in Boehringer Ingelheim’s mammalian facilities across the globe.
