Boehringer to close S1 production facility

German-based Boehringer Ingelheim Chemicals is planning to shut down its Synthesis 1 (S1) production facility around mid 2013, keeping in view the facility's age and future capacity needs of the company.

The company will take into account many other details associated with the closure, such as evaluation of production commitments, decommissioning equipment and resource requirements.

Boehringer stated that two of its other facilities, Synthesis 3 and Synthesis 5, will continue to remain operational.

Boehringer said it is committed to take care of the employees who would be affected due to the plant shutdown.
