CambridgeSoft, Microsoft collaborate for scientific information storage, search

CambridgeSoft has entered into a collaboration with Microsoft to enhance the ability of scientists to share data across the enterprise through the integration of CambridgeSoft's E-Notebook and Microsoft's SharePoint 2010 and Fast Search Server 2010 for SharePoint.

With the integration of the E-Notebook and SharePoint platforms, CambridgeSoft is expceted to work with Microsoft to extend to other products and delivery platforms including cloud computing.

CambridgeSoft and Microsoft said that the increasing utilisation of SaaS environments such as the Windows Azure platform is also expected to provide another step change in the possibilities for internal and external collaboration, productivity improvements and cost reduction.

CambridgeSoft president and CEO Michael Tomasic said that E-Notebook provides a platform that enables collaborative science conducted globally within organisations and between organisations.

“Within the E-Notebook platform, teams of scientists plan and document objectives, document literature research, execute and document experiments, request services of other scientists, analyse data and collate and report experimental results,” Tomasic said.

“All of the essential steps in the proper execution of the scientific method are integrated and enhanced in a holistic environment allowing for the traceability and documentation of discoveries from inception to patent execution and product commercialisation.

“The integration of E-Notebook content under the SharePoint umbrella enables comprehensive search across all data required for global organisations to make effective decisions.”

Microsoft Life Sciences Industry Solutions director Michael Naimoli said that SharePoint 2010 provides a horizontal platform for the collaboration of individuals across total organisations from marketing to R&D to manufacturing.

“Through the integration of the FAST enterprise search engine within the SharePoint platform, searching of all data inside an organisation and across the Internet is now possible,” Naimoli said.
