Sunquest and UPMC expand partnership

Sunquest Information Systems, a provider of laboratory and diagnostic information systems, has announced that the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, a global health enterprise, has signed a strategic agreement enabling UPMC to expand utilization and deployment of the Sunquest laboratory information solutions for an extended period of time.

As part of the agreement, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) will extend the Sunquest system, already in 15 of its 20 hospitals, to additional sites.

Additionally, after a successful pilot installation that resulted in eliminating laboratory specimen labeling errors, UPMC’s nursing staff will expand use of the Sunquest Collection Manager. UPMC’s long-term plans include deploying Sunquest’s laboratory information solutions to all sites. The agreement was signed for an undisclosed amount

Richard Atkin, president and CEO of Sunquest, said: “The hospital laboratory is central to the diagnostic and care planning processes. Having the right laboratory information solution and technology partner are key to ensure smooth enterprise operations, optimal patient experiences, and proper utilization of healthcare resources.”
