ErtelAlsop rolls out single-use capsules for biopharmaceutical uses

ErtelAlsop has launched MicroCap disposable capsule filters, which do not need expensive and exhausting change-outs to provide the on-stream performance necessary for process scale batches ranging from .05lt to over 50lt.

Simplifying testing and increasing performance of the process, the new capsules remove the need for costly, incompetent pooling of multiple batches for primary separations/prefiltration, secondary clarification, cell culture harvest, and cell culture clarification.

Available in six sizes from 23cm2 single-layer/double-layer to 2880cm2 single-layer and 1500cm2 double-layer, these disposable capsules cater sizes, efficient filter area, and connection styles to fit laboratory through production batch processing.

For speedy and effective process development and optimization during scale-up and scale-down studies with linear scalability, the capsules have 12 different depth filter media grades from 0.2-15 microns.

Delivering complete disposability without any cleaning needs and validation, the capsules provide low hold-up volumes and decreased post-use rinsing volumes for enhanced product recovery.

ErtelAlsop single-use technologies product manager Scott Anderson said, "MicroCap capsules offer highly predictable scale-up and can eliminate the need for changeouts during batch processing."

Designed to ensure operator safety and minimize product loss, MicroCap capsules’ sealed design eliminates direct operator handling of fragile filter discs and protects operators from biologically toxic compounds.

These capsules are available in single layer – suitable for lower contaminant removal; and double layer -ideal for applications containing higher debris loads as well as activated carbon formats.
