US researchers compared 10 diabetes pills and found they all worked well to reduce blood sugar levels.
The Glucophage drug, which costs about $100 a year, came out on top. It worked just as well as the other pills in the study, and was also found to lower bad cholesterol.
The study, which was published online by the Annals of Internal Medicine, recommends that patients should choose their medication based on their individual response to side effects.
